Seattle, WA, Feb.7, 2015–Radio talk show host Rajiv Nagaich interviewed Dr. John Jarstad of Evergreen Eye Center today on the popular Saturday morning radio show, Aging Options which airs on KIRO FM 97.3 and KTTH AM 770. The show features topics on the legal, housing, financial and medical issues involved with aging. Dr. Jarstad discussed a wide variety of conditions that afflict the aging population such as various forms of macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts. When discussing preventative measures, he cited an interesting study regarding macular degeneration in which identical twins were separated at birth and followed throughout their lives. The twin who was exposed to second-hand cigarette smoke in the home as a child had a greater likelihood of developing macular degeneration later in life. He also discussed various new treatment options that were not available even 10-15 years ago that can dramatically improve vision such as the advanced femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery or more commonly referred to as bladeless cataract surgery. He also discussed new vison-correcting implant options and astigmatic correction during cataract surgery.
